Whitehaven Coal – Maules Creek Coal Mine Community Open Day on this weekend!

There will be plenty of family fun at Boggabri this weekend with the Whitehaven Coal – Maules Creek Coal Mine Community Open Day on this Saturday, 15 April.
With gates opening from 8.30am at the Boggabri Showground, the community event will see plenty of family friendly activities, including face painting, pony rides and jumping castles, as well as market stalls and food trucks. Plus, visitors can check out some of Whitehaven Coal’s mining equipment which will be on display.
Whitehaven Coal’s General Manager Community Engagement, Darren Swain says the day is open to all residents and Whitehaven Coal employees to enjoy.
“We’re inviting residents and employees in Boggabri, Narrabri, Gunnedah and beyond to come down to the showground for a fantastic day of community fun,” he said.
“We have a number of local businesses, food traders and local emergency services coming along this Saturday, plus plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy.”
The day will also be an opportunity for the community to learn more about Whitehaven Coal’s mining operations, with a number of stands at the event dedicated to different aspects of the mining business.
“This is a great opportunity for members of the community to learn more about what we do, and we will have staff from several teams including, rehabilitation, biodiversity, geology, human resources, health and safety, and operations, on hand to provide insights into the work they undertake on a daily basis.”
Guided bus tours out to the Maules Creek Mine Site will also take place, providing a behind the scenes look at Whitehaven Coal’s mining operations.
“We had a very strong response to our guided bus tours, with seats booking up in a matter of days,” said Mr Swain.
“However, those attending the showground won’t miss out on the action with several pieces of equipment and machinery set up, including a grader, loader, and excavator bucket, as well as a drift runner, which is a heavy duty mine vehicle.
Plus, we’ll even have drones and VR simulators for people to enjoy.”
The event is free to attend and will kick off at 8.30am on Saturday, 15 April.
