An invitation to attend Renewable Manilla Thursday 14 – Saturday 15 April 2023 Manilla Showground

What is Renewable Manilla?

A series of workshops and fun events that provide an opportunity to come together and be inspired. A space for collaborations between our local community, regional artists, scientists, and makers; to share new ideas and approaches on how our future can be better.

The event is being organised by Manilla Community Renewable Energy Inc. (MCRE). Our not-for-profit group has been working towards a solar project that benefits our community

The event’s feature is the 100 Mile Dinner which will be held on Saturday 15th April from 5pm till 10pm at the Manilla Town Hall, The dinner will include a delicious 3 course meal, featuring local produce and is a wonderful opportunity to get together and have a have a good time, enjoying great food and company.

Renewable Manilla Workshops

Workshops currently include; Spinning and weaving, Felting, Mending / Sewing, Crochet/ Knitting, Leatherwork, Painting, Papermaking, Botanical illustration, Print making, Badge making and Music.

SOLAR POWERED GAME MUSIC FRI + SAT Drop in and Make Experiment with sound and make your own musical tracks. T-SHIRT BAG UNPCYCLING FRI+ SAT – Drop in and Make

CNRL Library Innovation Studio. Upcycle an old t-shirt into an awesome tote bag. No scissors required. If you can tie a granny knot you can make a t-shirt bag! This workshop demonstrates the ability to reuse items before they go to the bin and speaks to the costs of fast fashion on our planet.

ECO-DYEING FRIDAY + SATURDAY – Drop in and Make Experiment and learn eco-dyeing. Participants will take home your own unique artwork on a cotton bag made with ingredients from your kitchen.

Non toxic dyeing. All materials from nature including; berries, gum leaves, marigolds, silky oak leaves.

Participants invited to bring their own plants to experiment with.

SOLAR COOKER SATURDAY – Drop in and make CNRL Library Innovation Studio. Make your own Solar Cooker from tinfoil and items commonly found in the recycling. Bake biscuits, cook rice – even cook a vegetable stew with just the power of the sun!

Featuring for the first time in Manilla – The Amazing Enviro Race!

Friday afternoon – students compete for prizes by completing a series of fun challenges. for Infants, Primary, Junior High, and Senior High school students

The amazing Enviro Race is presented by Sustainable North West Enviro Race and sponsored by Tamworth Regional Council and supported by local community groups and businesses.

The amazing race is open to school students from across North West region it is an easy-going event that challenges students to learn about sustainable behaviour in a fun and engaging race format.

Amazing Enviro Race 2023

Friday 14 March 2-4pm, Manilla Showground

The race will include several stations where students will be required to work with experts and volunteers to find the answers to questions, provide their own ideas about living more sustainably and how we can better care for our environment.
