The NSW Government has stepped in to bring information technology (IT) to aged care residents in Manilla Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said he was pleased to present a cheque to the Manilla Local Health Committee following a successful application for IT hardware.Mr Anderson said, ìThe one-off donation of $3,200 will contribute to the purchase of four iPads for those in the aged care wing of the Manilla Multi- Purpose Service.
The iPads will assist the aged to keep up with modern technology and all it has to offer,Mr Anderson said.
When used to communicate with family and friends, iPads can go a long way towards bridging the great divides of distance, time and even generations. As a result of COVID-19, many older people have been unable to stay connected with family and friends.
Now, through the iPads this can be addressed,Mr Anderson said. Often, just seeing a face can be most therapeutic to those who have been isolated. Ready access to world-wide information will also assist the aged in isolation to keep abreast of events locally, nationally and internationally. iPads can also provide great entertainment through pre-programmed games, as well as through links on the internet.
I congratulate the Manilla Local Health Care Committee for their initiative in applying for the funds, and on the success of their application. The initiative promises to bring many benefits to those in the Manilla Multi-Purpose Service aged care wing, Mr Anderson concluded.
