With the festive season and New Year fast becoming a distant memory the Barraba Shutter Bugs group are keen to get back to the business of taking photos, gathering for monthly meetings and enjoying the occasional photo shoot outing.
We were fortunate with the relaxing of Covid-19 rules to be able to gather as a small group and venture out to several fantastic photo shoots towards the end of 2020. It is hoped that these adventures will continue when we commence meeting in 2021.
Our first monthly meeting will be held at the Claypan Gallery on Tuesday 9th February at 4pm – new members are most welcome. We will discuss photographic projects, plan photo shoots and talk all things relating to cameras and photography!
We are very excited that our small group has grown in size since this time last year. We now have approximately 10 regulars to our meetings and more attending our photo shoots. The more members we get the more knowledge we have to share. It does not matter what your level of photography is, we encourage you to come along and have fun with your camera and a group of like minded people.
In December members and family gathered at the Commercial Hotel for our Christmas Party and had a wonderful evening. It was also a sad occasion as we farewelled one of our much loved members Susan Abrahams and her partner, Steve. Besides being an active member of the Shutter Bugs, Susan was involved in the Claypan sewing group and the Barraba Men’s Shed (along with Steve). Nothing was ever too much trouble for Susan, always willing to give a hand to those in need or contact a local member regarding important issues. During the recent drought Susan, Steve and their team were the instigators of several fund raisers for the local farming community. Holding street stalls to raise funds for charity vegetable parcels, organising free BBQs for farmers and arranging for the Rural Financial Services to attend Barraba were just a few things that come to mind.
Susan certainly made her mark in Barraba and we are sad to lose her from our group. We wish her and Steve all the best with the next chapter of their life in Landsborough, Queensland. A lovely Silo Art canvas by Margaret Harris was presented to Susan and Steve to remind them of their former home town of Barraba.

Our Spring Photographic Exhibition is still displayed at The Claypan Gallery for anyone who has not had the opportunity to view it yet. All works are for sale and are either framed or canvas – ready to hang. The Claypan Gallery also has a wonderful array of local art, pottery, handicrafts, sewing and preserves for sale.
