ADDITIONAL $1.6 MILLION GUARANTEES VITAL RESEALING OF RANGARI ROAD

The NSW Government has committed an additional $1.6 million to ensure that the vital road resealing of a 19.6-kilometre stretch of Rangari Road in the Gunnedah Shire and Tamworth Region local government areas.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the additional funding took the NSW Government’s total investment in the Rangari Road upgrade to more than $12 million since 2019.

“Rangari Road, despite being an old goat track, is a key regional road transporting heavy and passenger vehicles to the mines, prime farmland and to homes,” Mr Anderson said.

“The community has been fighting for the road to be resealed for over a decade, and I am thrilled that we are delivering.

“The extra funding is on top of existing NSW Government funding commitments of $10.4 million, bringing the total to more than $12 million which is a significant investment for the communities of Gunnedah, Manilla and Tamworth.

“The works on this road are being undertaken by Tamworth Regional Council and Gunnedah Shire Council and they tell me the project is on track for delivery next year which is great news for the locals who have been patiently waiting for works to recommence.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the additional funds for the Rangari Road project represented the NSW Government’s commitment to ensuring safer road connections in the bush.

“This work will provide major safety benefits as well as support a vital transport link between Manilla Road and the Kamilaroi Highway,” Mr Toole said.

“Once completed, the upgraded Rangari Road will provide smoother and safer journeys for the families, freight operators and workers who use the road well into the future.”

The project will be delivered by both Tamworth Regional Council and Gunnedah Shire Council with major construction expected to begin in early 2022.
