$5K raised by Shitbox rally just the start

By Jane Harris

Phil Denyer and Dan Etheridge’s “Shitbox Rally” team has already raised $5,660 to fight cancer. Phil, partner in Denyers Mechanical Repairs, and Dan, who owned and operated a local courier service for many years will be taking part in the 2023 Autumn rally to support the work of the Cancer Council. The men will drive a “Shitbox” car from Newcastle to Townsville. The car has been named “Off-the-clock” and can be seen at Denyers Garage on Queen Street. It recently received a paint job in Daffodil yellow.

The $5,660 of donations has ensured “Off–the-clock” has a place on the starting line. Major sponsors to date include Inland Petroleum, Hart Rural, Wards Plumbing, Stock & Crop and Rocky Glen Ag. The team aims to raise $10,000. With 10 months to go the target looks very achievable.

There are a few ways community members can help. Tax-deductible donations can be made through the team web page: autumn2023.shitboxrally.com.au/off-the-clock. Donations of goods in-kind for a raffle or auction are also welcome. Supporters can also buy a $10 supporter sticker to put on the car, and write a message on it for the team.
